This brief set in co-ordance with the RSA Student awards required a minute-long animation to accompany an audio monologue about communicating with terminally ill loved ones and planning for death, voiced by Michael Buerk. The work centres around well-known imagery and clear visual cues relating to fear, relaxation, unforeseen circumstances and avoidance of issues. I looked to create a fast-paced video with a dusting of humour, intended to be watched several times to take in its details.

The animatic storyboard was very important for ensuring accurate timings throughout the fast moving dialogue.

It felt vitally important to use a style and character designs that would be easy to animate, whilst giving visual depth & texture to the work - a feel of realism for the audience to connect with.

This ‘South Park’ influenced craft paper style allowed me to tick those boxes. Character tool kits and guidelines helped to ensure a consistency throughout in terms character appearance and technical effects such as drop shadow.
